Child Support

In Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Child Support Guidelines determine the level of child support awarded. These guidelines are based on the income of both parents, custody and the expense of child care and health insurance. I can advise you as to what you can expect in terms of a child support requirement and work to achieve the best outcome for you.

As a former litigation attorney with the Department of Revenue's Child Support Enforcement Division, I have the practical experience to understand the complexities of child support cases.

The awarding of child support can present intricate issues however, such as those involving paternity or a parent's hidden income. I have extensive experience in these and other child support matters, and will represent you with energy and determination in order to achieve your goals.

Alimony

Unlike the case with child support, alimony may or may not be required as part of an overall divorce settlement. In some cases such as those involving marriages of long duration or those involving a spouse who cannot work, permanent alimony may be ordered by the court. In other situations, the court may order temporary alimony or no alimony at all. If they wish, the parties to a divorce can also negotiate a settlement that includes or excludes the payment of alimony.

I can evaluate your situation and recommend the right course of action for you.

Modifications in Child Support and Alimony

When a person's financial situation has changed, it may be possible to obtain a modification in the child support or alimony award. As your attorney, I can also deal with post-divorce actions as they relate to modifications and contempt actions.
