Renner’s soon-to-be ex-wife wants primary physical child custody

Similar to most Massachusetts mothers, many celebrity mothers are concerned about the best interests of their children. When actress and model Sonni Pacheco filed for a divorce from “Mission Impossible 5” star Jeremy Renner in December of last year, the couple had not even had their first wedding anniversary. They share a 22-month-old daughter who is in the middle of the child custody dispute.

Sonni claims that Jeremy has only ever spent quality time with the baby after she insisted. She claims to have been the primary caretaker for the child on a day-to-day basis. The model is not opposed to joint legal custody, but insists on getting primary physical custody of the little girl. In her divorce filing, she asserts that the child’s safety will be at risk at Jeremy’s residence. Her primary concerns are Jeremy’s arms collection, along with an unfenced swimming pool and koi pond.

She represents that she is currently unemployed and seeks child support from the actor. She asserts that his assets are as much as $13 million, while claiming that his income last year was $3.4 million. Sonni also requests legal fees and expenses totaling $100,000 to be paid by Jeremy. According to the Sonni, Renner refuses to return her passport that he locked away to stop her from visiting her family in her native country during the holidays. She seeks a court order to force him to return the passport, along with her driver’s license, birth certificate and Social Security card that were allegedly locked away in his safe.

Sonni listed irreconcilable differences as the reason for filing papers for a divorce. She confirmed that a prenuptial agreement exists, but claims it to be a fraudulent document — though no details were reported. Learning about the potential disputes that may arise during a divorce may underscore the importance of retaining an experienced legal representative. With the assistance and advice of a family law attorney, couples facing child custody and other issues in Massachusetts may be able to resolve them in a way that will protect the best interests of the child while also respecting the rights of each parent.
